Ella's Birth Story

June. 17, 2010 I experienced the greatest day of my life!
Like I had blogged earlier I was scheduled to be induced on Wed. June 17th at 5:30 am at Mercy.  Weeks before I really frowned at the idea of being induced because I wanted every thing to happen as natural as possible when it came to when she was ready to to be born. Then I hit 40 weeks and with this hot weather, my increasing size and the pressure I felt made the answer easy when my doctor asked about being induced- it was an instant "YES!".
So Wednesday I spent the day at the office making pending notes and wrapping up projects. That evening I had dinner with my best friend and her son Jace then we went to the park so Jace could play and we could chit chat.  One of the the things that I told Jess was that I was shocked that my water had not broke, I explained that I really felt that my water would have broke...
{ Well My Head didn't make this picture very well but Jess wanted a picture with my full grown belly! }

After the dinner and park I came home and took a much needed shower.  After my shower I put on sweats and went to take clothes out of the dryer.  When I looked down I was surprised to see that I had "Peed my pants" I thought for a moment that it might be my water but I played it off as wishful and thought I more than likely lost control of my bladder.  After the third change of pants I finally was convinced that my water was breaking.  I guess it's confusing because it doesn't happen like you see in the movies, no big gush of water it was more like a "leak" (later I find out thats exactly what it was, a leak).  I was thrilled.  I could not have planned it better! My water was breaking on my due date and I was already getting prepared to go in that next morning to be induced.  So I called my mom and she rushed home and also my best friend Jessica was on her way over to help in anyway she could (because I thought I had til 5:30am and it was around 10pm I still wasn't completely ready!).
My mom had color in her hair I told he to finish because I had clothes in the wash anyway and needed to blow dry my hair.  We finally left for the hospital after midnight and arrived at Mercy a little after one.

{ Jess and I right before I left for the hospital .. my water is breaking in this pic! }

I will say the great thing about going to the ER when your pregnant is that you NEVER have to wait.  My Mother and I walked in calmly and  I explained that my water broke and I was already scheduled to be induced at 5:30am that morning.  They pulled up the schedule and for whatever reason I was not on it! It was also a busy night for them many women where coming in with their water braking...must have been a full moon or something.  I was told that if my water had not broke I wouldn't have been able to induce that morning because they were so full.  Man I was so happy my water broke!! I can't imagine showing up ready to get my labor started and being sent home!
Anyway I was then  wheeled chaired to my "first" room where they ran a test to insure that my water was breaking and that turned out positive! I also found out that I was still only dilated at a 2.  So from there the nurse told us that once they had my room ready I'd be moved and they would start the pitocin drip at 5 am.  I asked for some ice chips and as my Mom fell asleep for a little while I sat there eating ice chips as if it was popcorn and starring at the clock that now read 2:00am as if it was a movie.
About an hour and a half passed and I was moved to my room where Ella was going to be delivered.
I my water was then broken but not on prepose as the nurse went to hook the fetal monitor to the baby's head.  At this point I still was not on any pain medicine and I hadn't had any contracts that I could feel.
The nurses left the room and I sat there again starring at the clock just waiting for the little hand to reach 5 and the big hand to reach 12.
Finally 5:00 am was reached! The nurse came in and checked me for dilating, I was at a 3 by this time. She then started my pitocin drip to induce my labor.  About an hour passed and I started to feel contractions, nothing I couldn't handle just really bad cramps.  Every time I had a contraction my first reaction was to hold my breath and every time my Mom would have to remind me to breath! I guess I should have taken those breathing classes ( But I think I did awesome without them!).
After an hour of being of the pitocin my nurse came in and told me I was now at a 4. The contractions then started getting worse not horrible though. After another 40 minutes had passed the nurse checked me again and said I was now at a "good 4" which I guess is almost a 5.  She then asked me if I wanted to go ahead and get an epidural, the thought of a needle in my back scared me ! I always thought I would be in so much pain from the contractions that the epidural wouldn't bother me.  I of course said yes and 30 minutes later the anesthesiologist came into the room to administer the epidural.  Did you know the whole process takes about 20 minutes? For 20 minutes I was scared to death and trying to relax and stay still through it all even while I was having contractions, not easy! Finally the epidural was in and after a couple minutes the bottom half of my body went numb.  I was worried though because I could still move my legs and toes that I would feel pain during the delivery. The doctor reassured me several time that I would not feel a thing.  After I was given the epidural they turned the pitocin drip up a little.
My Family plus my best friend, Jessica then came in to visit with me.  After 30 minutes of talking with them and knowing I was only a 4 and could be while they left for lunch and would return later.
Not even 10 minutes passed before I started to feel major pressure "down there" I told my mom to get a nurse because I felt something going on.  The nurse came in and to our shock she said I had already been dilated to a 9!!!! I went from a 4 to a 9 in less than a hour!!!! I was excited and ready to start the whole pushing process although at the time I didn't really know how, only that I was going to wing it and visualize it the best I could.  My Mom immediately called my sister-in-law and I called Jess and had them turn around and come right back to the hospital.  I had two nurses come in the room and told me that soon we would begin to start pushing.  Christen and Jessica showed up and shortly after the nurses came back into the room. They pulled out the leg stirrups and I felt excitement  knowing this was another step closer to meeting my baby girl. Then nurse told me I would start pushing when they saw I was having a contraction and I would push for 10 seconds then take a breath and do it two more times. I have never been more focused, I pushed with everything in me and visualized Ella's arrival.  I pushed with the nurses for about 20 minutes before my Doctor got to the hospital.  Once my Doctor sat down and I was told to start pushing through the contraction by the second push Ella was here!
I had never been more Excited, Overwhelmed, or Exhausted in my life!
I couldn't believe that after only 30 minutes of active labor Ella was born!

Sunday Bloody Sunday...

Well I'm coming up on week 40 of being pregnant... I fell like I'll forever be pregnant. I am so ready to get labor behind me and start this new life! In the mean time I am just waiting...
Today I went and hung out with one of my best friends, Tiffanie who was in town from Dallas along with her brother Chris and our friend Emily.  So it was good for me to "get out" for a couple hours today.  I hate no being able to fill up my day with busy things to do.  Yesterday I thought my water might brake I had never felt so much pressure "down there" I had to hold my belly up while I walked! My water however never broke.  I got a little bit of last minute shopping done then I treated myself to a Manicure and Pedi. So I now feel completely ready! My bag is packed, Ella's outfit is picked out, I got my hair done this week, and now my toes will look pretty in those awful stirrups, and my nails are all cute and maintained to hold my precious little baby! Today I am taking it easy and staying inside the air conditioned house! I is so hot and humid outside today, ugh!
Now as I write this I all the sudden feel tired.
I guess I will go take another pregnant nap.....

Two-Paths...

I feel like my life has been going pretty slow here lately, like I am stuck going in a straight line  just waiting to have this baby so my life can really start. Every thing is about to change for me...EVERYTHING!
There are so many life choices I am playing out in my head.  Everything is so uncertain to me right now. I don't know if I should save up to buy a house or hurry out of my parents and move into a rent house?? I wonder if I should go to school knowing that if I do my life will be consumed with taking care of a baby, work, and school to fill up any free time instead of friends? I guess I am looking for answers that are impossible for me to know until I get to that fork in my life.  For now I am still pregnant just waiting to see how things are going to be as a single mom.  I can't wait to get ENERGY back. I feel like someone has drained the life out of me lately. The worst part is knowing that it's all going to get worse better it gets better.  I am ready to get this show on the road! Hurry up labor I want to get you behind me!

Acupuncture and My Tuesday...

Yesterday was an eventful day for me! It was my Dad's birthday, which I thought went awesome.  It was a pretty chill day at the office and I left early for a doctors appointment.  Everything is looking good! I am now 37 weeks, my baby is concerned full-term now.  My weight has been almost the exact same for these last two months.  The last check up I had lost 2lbs, this appointment I gain 2 lbs so I am back at the same weight I have been! Awesome, I'm glad is staying consistent! My doctor checked me for the first time to see if I was dilated. Found out that I am not dilated yet, but I'm 80% phase which means my body is getting ready for labor! YAY! But I also got scared I still don't see how a baby is going to fit it's way through (ouch!)!  My OB then let me know that I could have this baby ANYTIME now and also that it's safe to have her anytime now!
After the doctor I went to my Chiropractor to get adjusted.  After I told him about my doctors appointment he asked it I was wanting to start acupuncture to help induce my labor.  I said "YES!" then he asked
"So, your ready to have this baby as soon as tonight then, right??...Because it could induce you that fast..."
WOW, that stopped me in my tracks! No, I am honestly not "ready" but then again how can I be, I feel like it's going to be a fly by the seat of my pants type deal! I am making sure however I do the best I can to be ready and prepare in any way I can!
So yes we started acupuncture yesterday.  He put tiny needles (like the one in the picture above) in both of my small toes, inside of my ankles and in my wrist.  Then I was told to lay there for 15 minutes. Just 3 minutes into it I could feel my body responding.  Then I started to feel ready sick! My sister in law came into the room and helped me sit up which made me feel better. I had started to sweat and feel a little light headed.  The doctor came in and put two more acupuncture needles in the webbed part of my hands (between my thumb and pointer finger) to help take away the nausea, it worked.  I sat there for the remanding time and was fine.
Later that night I went to dinner with my parents and then to a coffee shop to hang out for my Dad's Birthday.  Once I got home I went to change into some sweat pants, as I lifted my left leg into my pants I got a sharp piercing  pain running up through my body and I froze! It hurt sooo bad! I after the pain stopped I started walk and on my second step, as I came down on my right leg I felt my body wanting to collapse.  I was in pain.  I could not put any weight on my right leg or it caused awful pain in my groin area! I know I had pulled something or that something was not right.  This pain lasted all night! Which ment I was CRAWLING to the bathroom for all my many pee brakes that I have to take! Awful night and awful pain that brought me to tears.  I could barely sleep, if I moved to fast or the wrong way I felt that pain.  The only way to keep from hurting was to not move the lower half of my body at all.
I woke up this morning felling a little better, I still can't put much wight on my right side though.  I went to my chiropractor again and was told I had a spasm and to take it easy it's starting to heal... We are also going to do acupuncture again tomorrow.
So today I am trying to take it easy as I crawl or walk funny til this pulled whatever gets better....(sigh)....

Sleepless while Pregnant...

My sleep schedule is so messed up these days! I can't fall asleep at night to save my life! Of Course the mornings I can't get enough sleep I want to stay in bed til noon! I wish I could get back on a normal sleep cycle, however I feel that Ella just isn't going to let that happen.  Thankfully the hard burn isn't as bad anymore, but I still can't sleep with the frequent kicking and the many bathroom runs through out the night! I can't wait to one day get back on a normal sleep schedule !
25 more days til my due date.....25 more days ....

Packing For Hospital

This Morning I went to Jamba Juice for a Strawberry Smoothie for breakfast, YUM! The man behind the counter asked me how many weeks I had left, I replied four weeks.  He asked me if I was ready and I told him yes and no.  Then he asked if my bag was packed from the hospital....AHHH!!! No it's not. I suddenly realized what a slacker I have been.  He said he told his wife to pack at 6 weeks and the the VERY NEXT DAY she went into labor! WOW! Am I already a bad mother?!?!
Then I talked to my best friend about how unready I am and I started to feel a little sick to my stomach! I have NO IDEA what I am getting into! Did I go to birthing classes? nope.... Have I been reading pregnancy books?..nope! Ahhh I have been walking and reading up on post pregnancy weight loss but other than that I think I'm failing! I guess I just start to get overwhelmed and I feel as my life is on hold til D-day!
My Due date still seems sooo far away to me but I do have a goal to get my hospital bag packed this week along with putting the car seat in my car! I can't express how excited and overwhelmed I am!

Gym, You Are My Friend!

Yesterday I decided to make it a goal to start back at the Gym again.  Although I can't do much of the workout I use to I still can do a brisk walk on the treadmill and day dream about getting a fit body after my sweet baby girl is born.  I didn't realize how much I had missed the feeling of working out and walking out of the gym feeling pleased I was there instead of spending my time watching TV or being lazy.
They say it takes 21 days to create a habit.  I am now 34 days away from my due date so I had this awesome idea of making going to the gym and eating better a habit now so that way my body can whip back into shape faster.
THE MAIN REASON though I started putting my Nikkie's back on my feet ... I hear the more I walk and force myself to stay active, the easier LABOR will be!!!
I had many moms at my shower tell me "MAKE SURE YOU ARE WALKING!"
I can not wait for the labor to be over with and to hold my baby in my arms!!!!
A healthy life style has always been important to me but now that I will have a child of my own, more so than ever I want to set a great example of eating and taking care of my body.
I will be seeing that treadmill later tonight for another 45 min of brisk walking and becoming a step closer to a possible better delivery experience!

35 Weeks

Oh man, 5 more weeks and I kept hearing it's only going to get worse before it gets better! I will say that my energy level has been better than what it was before and the morning sickness has not been a problem- YAY!
I went to my doctor on Monday and was told that I have lost 2lbs. Lost weight ? haha those were words I hadn't heard in FOREVER! But over all I am told that I am doing really well with my weight gain.  I am going to start walking today, I hear it will help with labor if I stay active.  So today will be day one back in the gym and maybe outdoor walks once this weather gets nice and not so rainy !
Ugh....So looking forward to Due Day!!

Craving!!

So thanks to Russ I have been craving cheese cake all day!!!! Last night he got into what I think was Cheese Cake Factory's Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake. YUM!!! I need to stay away from Sugars via Doctors orders but I had one bite that turned into three (which is impressive for not turning into 10 bites)!
Ugh I don't know if I'll make it through the weekend without picking a slice up!!

Oh Baby, Oh Baby!

Today the baby has been kicking my left side with such strong force, I think she wants out!!! I want her out! I'm not ready in all honestly still soooo much to do, but Im ready to she her pretty baby face!
I went to the doctor this week and was told she is already head down and should stay that way til D-day! So now when I feel movement I have a better guess of weather it's a arm or a leg!
I was also told by my doctor that she seemed like from what he can tell right now she isn't going to be a huge baby, YAY!! This "great stretch" that is becoming closer in my future has me a little bit worried!

On another note I just realized I have not posted anything in quite some time! And now I'm sitting here wondering what I've been spending these last two weeks doing... Last week I felt exhausted every day after work I slept a lot and read a lot due to my troubles of falling asleep.  My Mom's Birthday was last Thursday and so we had a girls night with some of her friends.  Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and I love seeing my mom having a good time.  I had bought have a gift card from Brighten, her favorite store weeks before for birthday which was an awful idea because it killed me waiting to give it to her! She has been working so hard lately and been such a blessing to me I was ready to take her out for a little shopping!
This current week has been really great.  My energy level has been up a LITTLE more and other than heartburn I can't complain! I have pretty much spent my evenings with my friend Rusty hanging out watching some movies and playing Gin Rummy (which I am finally starting to get good at!).
I'm so blessed to have such a wonderful friend who is so enjoyable to be around.

Waiting.

Yesterday I had a doctors appointment and was told every thing is looking good.  I now go in to see my OBGYN every two weeks.  I am hoping his will help time go by faster! I am so uncomfortable in my own skin!! Today while I was driving to work I felt shortness of breath and it was hard some me to breath, not a fun feeling.  Then I wasn't even at the office for an hour before I started to get really hot, shaky, and faint feeling.  I started crying, I couldn't help it I felt awful and there was nothing I could do about it. I am so tired of this faint feeling I get from time to time!! I am also tired and worn out more so now than ever before! I feel like the baby is draining everything from me and at times I just feel weak.  I can't wait to have my own body back to myself! I told my doctor I was sooo ready to have this baby and he relied "It's like waiting for christmas, huh?" I told him I can wait for christmas better than I could wait for this!! I need these next two months to fly by!

10 Weeks.

I know I haven't blogged in a couple of days.  That's due to my busy weekend and then being sick all day yesterday :(.  I still have 10 Weeks left til my due date, it seems so close and so far away at the same time! I really think some times my body is killing me slowly! The stomach pain, nausea, and this awful I'm going to faint feeling is getting worse.  I wish I could just stay in bed for these final 10 weeks! But there is so much to do! I still need to register for my baby showers and finish planing and getting ready for the showers I am having next month!!!
Speaking of the "big day" its starting to scare me a little bit! Tomorrow I am calling the hospital about birthing classes. I pray that I won't be one of those women in labor for 20 plus hours, ugh!!!! I can't imagine!  But only time will tell.  I am also still having a hard time picturing my life with a child!! I am in such a hurry to no longer be pregnant but then I forget to think how forever changed I am going to be! It honestly scares me sometimes but for the most part there is a great peace I have about it all.  I know that God is doing a great work in my life and I'm trusting in God to provide for me and my new baby!

Baby Kicks

The Baby Kicks So Much At Night!
I've been relaxing on my bed surfing the internet and I find myself stopping and starring at my belly as I see little movements! It's so amazing to not only be able to feel your baby but also see the movement.  One of the hardest parts about always being alone at night while this is happening is having no one to share in the excitement.  But then again I'm not alone my baby is with me always.  It's amazing how you can love so one so much and have never met them.  I am so in Love, I have never felt this love for anyone before! I am so blessed and thankful for the work God is doing in my life durning this time. I pray that I will be a strong woman of faith and the best example possible for this sweet little baby girl.  I pray for her future father and my my future husband that God will keep him safe. I am trusting in God's timing and no longer my own.

Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.

27 Weeks Down, 13 Weeks to Go!

This week I am 27 weeks pregnant. Still have the last three months to go before my due date, which seems way too long!!

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Tuesday I went to Target to get some new cloths, but instead I just found myself in aw about how big my baby bump is now!!!

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I went and had an Ultra Sound on Thursday at Mercy. Here are two of the really cool 4D Pictures of my baby's face!

After I got my Ultra Sound my Mom and I went to Babies R' Us and looked around at all the cute and fun baby stuff. I think yesterday is when it really hit me, "I'M HAVING A BABY!" I think just being able to see how real she is on the 4D Ultra Sound and then realizing all the things I am going to need to get for her and my mom being a grandparent for the first time! Wow it's a little scary but more then anything I felt a level of excitement that I hadn't felt before!
I use to see myself as a single, independent, career driven woman. I had plans to work and travel as much as I could. I also was not sure if I would ever have my own kids, I figured I might met the man I would marry and maybe to a step-mom if he already had kids.
Now everything has changed, to my surprise I am having my own baby and although I'm going at it as a single parent I've never felt more sure that I am where God is calling me to be. I have changed a lot since finding out I was pregnant. I started looking to God, having faith and praying more. It's no longer just about me. Things I use to see as "problems" don't even matter to me anymore! I feel like I finally see what really matters in life, and I'm really live the life that God always intended me to live.
I'm so excited to be a mom and I am so blessed to have the support of my family and friends.

I leave with the quote that has really changed my thinking and helped me through this pregnancy:

Prego Cravings

My Current Craving: French Fries with Ranch

Photobucket

Often people ask me what my pregnancy cravings are and I honestly haven't had too many crazy cravings. The first couple of weeks I had mad cravings for refried beans with melted cheese. Cookies, brownies, and coffee has become a consist craving of mine, which sucks because I really should be avoiding all three!! Right now I am craving some french fries, I am so close to leaving the house and making a french fry run, but I won't. One I am too comfy sitting here on my mac in the warm house and two my doctor would be shaking his head at my unwise food choice.
I will say this, Pickles and Pregnant women is NOT a myth! I love pickles more now than I ever could imagine a person liking pickles. I am trying really hard to keep my food choices healthy because not only am I feeding me but more importantly I am feeding my baby!
